The “move” of Olive Tree

by in News 8 May 2020

In this period of the year our olive trees, like those of every producer of this tree with mythological origins, are preparing for flowering and consequent fruit set.

Our ancestors used to say that the olive tree made the “move”. The month of May represents a very delicate and important phenological phase for olive growers. In organic farming, this phase is assisted only through the administration of vitamin complexes to plants, which promote the complete inflorescence.

In the photo we see an autochthonous cultivar olive tree called Leccino, dating back to 1958, therefore surviving two of the best known frosts in the history of Italian olive cultivation (that of 1929 and 1956), a variety that together with the Frantoio, Moraiolo and Correggiolo forms the blend recognized by the Tuscan IGP Consortium.
